The Once & Future Britain
The premise of this short shows us a Future Britain of 2024 where expressions of cultural diversity in the form of religious and cultural holidays have been banned. Difference has been near eradicated and cultural celebrations are now forbidden in favour of creating a more ‘passive’ and ‘socially cohesive’ nation in the name of ‘Peace’ or sedate universalism.
Could this be the Future? Time will tell, as Mankind seems destined to repeat the mistakes of his past…
This film was Created, Directed, Written and Produced by myself, A. Dee (The Artful Dodger) and Narrated by Felicity Finch.
This was a project I did at Iniva based over in Shoreditch, London at the end of last year.
Based on some of the Identicons Projects that I had done and my work with young people, I was asked to come and do a project at their downstairs gallery space.

Well, I thought in the interim I would begin the first in a small series of compilation sketchbooks, made public for the first time.
This one charts some of my early designs and explorations into why I wrote what I did and also who with. It’s an OLD SKOOL book going back to the early 80s! There will be a limited edition of these so if you have a feel for what went on back in the day with regards to 1980s Aerosol Culture in London, then this is for you! It may be small, but the quality of the print is high. Also, unlike many books in this vein, it’s not just a bunch of anonymous pictures, it has text and descriptions as well, giving you a deeper insight into what went on…
Anyway, feel free to checkout the preview above. Currently only available on Lulu.com
[To be honest, there were so many choices for this one, but in the end, I opted to write it to "It's Different For Girls" by Joe Jackson on A & M Records Ltd.]
This blog is like the girlfriend you have in a long-distance relationship, that you keep meaning to write to, but somehow, keep putting it off.
BLOG: I can’t believe it’s been over a month since you last wrote!
ME: I really only though it’d be a few days but when you’re absorbed in something, life around you just seems to snowball in a different direction. Like being in the eye of a tornado (so the ‘voices’ tell me!), it’s calm in the centre, and everything else around you is chaos. Though, often it can appear to be the other way around.
BLOG: Yes, that’s all very well and good. Yes, very philosophical… you’re good with words but you never use them. » continue reading »
[Penned to the tune of "Cruel To Be Kind" by Nick Lowe on Riviera Global Record Prod. Ltd - Don't ask!]
Just when I thought I had found an effective way to deal with cold-callers selling debt/loan schemes or asking me if I wanted free calls or whatever (my way of dealing with them is to simply yell ‘Hello?’ down the phone repeatedly whilst tapping the receiver as if it’s a bad connection and I can’t hear them. They soon get frustrated and hang up), life then sends me something else. No sooner have I waved off these pests, then another begins bombarding me in the form of requests from friends, acquaintances, and who-the-f—k-are-you? Gob-shites from way back when – who literally wouldn’t give me the time of day at the time, but who now think I’m their BFF (yeah, TTYN!) – to go on Facebook. » continue reading »
It seems as though I’m finally nearing the finish line in terms of going live with this site, which believe me, is a good thing. So then I’ll be able to move forward with the other million and 12 things I have going…
Got me a nice piece of virtual real estate on Redbubble – identicons.redbubble.com. Big thanks to Prisca for putting me on to that one! It’s basically a site for selling my digital artwork and T-Shirts has just been launched. It’s still early days but the response has been great so far.
Presently, this site seems to be all-encompassing, especially with getting the final assets together. Plus, in terms of online self-promotion that seems to be time-consuming also, but not in a bad way. I’ll speak more on that another time, but for now, it’s about time to prepare to move onto the next phase of the project. Promotion.
Wow, everything seems to be in a mad rush at the moment… Hold on a moment, I just thought of a cool title for this Blog entry. In fact, I think I’ll start titling all my entries from now on. So here goes…
TIME KEEPS ON SLIPPIN’, INTO THE FUTURE…
It sounded better in my head. Probably because I was hearing as it sounds on wax – that’s LP (Long Player), vinyl, record album, to all you newbies out there. Or oldies that feel they’re young again because they’ve just picked up on MP3s as being the ‘latest thing’! » continue reading »
Only 2 posts in and I’m finding this blogging thing weird already. Mainly because traditionally, I’ve done things in reverse – basically, my usual methodology is to complete whatever it is I’m doing before ‘informing’ people about it. In other words, I don’t talk about my work, I just do it and let other people talk about it, with me having already moved on to more fertile ground in the form of the next project or level of creative output. » continue reading »
